The Lagos State Police Command has summoned officers attached to the Ebenezer Police Station in the Alagbado/Ojokoro area following allegations of assault, unlawful detention and extortion made by resident Olugbenga Adeleke.
Adeleke alleged that he was stopped on September 6 by men who were not initially identifiable to him as uniformed officers, assaulted and subsequently taken to the police station. He further alleged that he was beaten at the station, detained overnight without being informed of an offence and later told to arrange money before he could regain his freedom. These claims remain allegations pending investigation.

The Lagos police spokesperson said the Command’s Complaint Response Unit had contacted the complainant and that an investigation had commenced. The Divisional Police Officer was directed to produce the officers concerned before the Commissioner of Police, with the parties expected at the Command on September 14.
Human-rights lawyer Festus Ogun also argued that, if established, the alleged conduct would raise questions under the constitutional protection of human dignity.
The matter will be watched closely because accountability for alleged police abuse depends not only on internal summonses but on transparent investigation, preservation of evidence and appropriate disciplinary or criminal proceedings where wrongdoing is established.
