Court Fixes December 2 for Judgement in El-Rufai’s ₦1bn Suit Against ICPC

The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed 2 December 2026 for judgement in a ₦1 billion fundamental-rights suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other respondents.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik fixed the date after lawyers for the parties adopted their respective court processes.

El-Rufai is challenging the circumstances surrounding a search of his Abuja residence and alleges violations of his constitutional rights. His claims include alleged breaches of the rights to dignity, personal liberty, fair hearing, and privacy.

Among the reliefs sought are an order directing the relevant authorities to return items seized during the search, together with a detailed inventory, and an award of ₦1 billion in general, exemplary and aggravated damages.

The ICPC has opposed the suit. In its court filings, the commission maintained that it acted on a petition and that the search was conducted under a warrant issued by a court.

The commission urged the court to dismiss the action.

The dispute places the legality of the search and the competing claims over constitutional rights before the court. However, the judgment has not yet been delivered, and the court has not made a final determination on the merits of the suit.

The 2 December date will determine the next major development in the case.
