Detail Dispute Lawyers launches with a focus on the transactions behind disputes Detail Dispute Lawyers, established on 16 March 2026, brings together the disputes practice previously conducted through Broderick Bozimo and Company with the arbitration practice of Laura Alakija and Co. The founding partners are Isaiah Bozimo, SAN, and Laura Alakija, FCIArb. The approach adopted by the new firm reflects how disputes frequently arise in large commercial projects. A single agreement rarely governs major transactions in sectors such as energy, infrastructure and finance. Instead, they are supported by a network of contractual arrangements that allocate risk, define obligations, and regulate relationships among several parties. A project may involve joint venture agreements, financing arrangements, engineering or supply contracts and regulatory approvals. Each element forms part of the legal framework within which the project operates. When the project is progressing smoothly, commercial performance and delivery tend to receive the most attention, while arrangements within the framework remain largely in the background. When disagreements arise, the contractual framework becomes central to the discussion. Questions about performance may depend on how obligations are allocated across the agreements. Payment disputes may involve financing structures or milestone provisions. Regulation changes may affect assumptions that informed the original transaction. In many disputes, the legal arguments presented in arbitration or litigation are closely connected to the way the transaction was originally structured. Understanding that commercial framework can therefore play an important role in resolving the dispute. The founders of Detail Dispute Lawyers say this practical reality influenced the way the firm has been organised. The practice focuses on international arbitration, arbitration-related court proceedings, complex commercial litigation and dispute strategy. The firm also works in alliance with Detail Commercial Solicitors, a Nigerian law firm that advises clients on a wide range of commercial transactions across several sectors of the Nigerian economy. The two firms remain independent organisations with separate management and professional responsibility. The alliance allows lawyers from both firms to collaborate when disputes arise from complex transactions. In such circumstances, the ability to draw on insight from the lawyers who regularly advise on the commercial structure of those transactions can provide important context for the legal issues that later emerge. Bozimo previously served as Attorney General of Delta State and currently serves as Vice President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. He acts as counsel and arbitrator in commercial disputes. Alakija acts in commerical and investment-related arbitration matters under several international arbitration rules and has represented clients in disputes involving infrastructure and commercial projects. According to the founders, many modern disputes arise within projects involving multiple parties, long-term contractual relationships, and regulatory considerations. In such circumstances, understanding the commercial arrangements that underpin the project can be an important part of resolving the disagreement. Detail Dispute Lawyers begins operations with that commercial reality firmly in view.
