COURT UPHOLDS KC LUXURY’S 30-DAY DETENTION

The Federal High Court in Lagos has upheld a 30-day detention order involving Kazeem Michael Afolabi, popularly known as KC Luxury, as investigations continue into an alleged cocaine-trafficking case.

Justice Akintayo Aluko dismissed Afolabi’s application seeking to set aside the detention order, which had earlier authorised the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to keep him in custody while conducting its investigation.

The investigation concerns an alleged connection to 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine. Counsel for Afolabi challenged the continued detention, arguing among other issues that he had not been formally charged with an offence.

The court, however, held that the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act relied upon by the defence did not invalidate the detention order in the circumstances presented.

The ruling concerns investigative detention and does not amount to a finding that Afolabi committed the alleged offence.
