A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Chicago State University certificate did not originate from the institution, while urging Nigerians to focus on the 2027 general election.

According to Daily Post, Okonkwo made the remarks in a post published on his official X account, where he also criticised the Tinubu administration and called for a change in leadership in 2027.

Okonkwo claimed that the controversy surrounding the President’s educational qualifications should not overshadow what he described as the broader political objective of unseating the current administration.

“Tinubu’s Chicago State University certificate did not emanate from the University, it is fake. The most important thing in 2027 is to get Tinubu out of power,” he wrote.

The former presidential spokesperson also urged the South-East to build stronger political alliances with other regions if it hopes to produce Nigeria’s President in the future.

According to Daily Post, Okonkwo expressed confidence that the ADC’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would establish what he described as a “transitional and transformational government” if elected.

He further stated that strategic political collaboration would improve the South-East’s chances of producing a Nigerian president.

The comments come amid renewed political discussions ahead of the 2027 general election, with political parties beginning campaigns following the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

President Tinubu has consistently maintained that his academic records are genuine. Claims regarding his educational qualifications have been the subject of previous legal and political disputes. Okonkwo’s remarks represent his personal allegations and political opinion, and no new evidence was presented in the statement.
