President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday held a series of closed-door meetings with senior government officials and political leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, just hours before the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 general election.
According to Metro Daily, the meetings took place on the eve of the campaign period approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Among those seen arriving at the Presidential Villa was Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who arrived at the President’s office at about 6:12 p.m. in his official vehicle.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, was also reported to have been meeting with the President during the period.

Also spotted at the Villa were Alhassan Ado Doguwa, member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake.
According to Metro Daily, Doguwa arrived after attending the National Peace Committee’s peace accord signing in Abuja, while Oyetola’s visit came days after the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election, where Governor Ademola Adeleke secured re-election.
Dele Alake was also seen at the Presidential Villa ahead of Wednesday’s scheduled Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
The purpose of the meetings was not disclosed, as none of the officials addressed journalists after meeting with the President.
The high-level engagements come as INEC officially opens campaigns for the 2027 general election, setting the stage for political parties and candidates to begin nationwide electioneering activities.
