BIOGRAPHY OF ADESINA OGUNLANA ESQ.
Adesina Ademola Ogunlana, a proud son of Ibadan, was born on July 27, 1964, into the distinguished Ogunlana family of Ile-Kure, Oja-Oba, Ibadan, Oyo State. From his earliest years, Adesina demonstrated a deep sense of justice and fairness, which would shape his future as a lawyer, activist, and human rights advocate.
Adesina Ogunlana began his education in Ibadan before pursuing legal studies, a path that would allow him to serve both his local community and the broader Nigerian legal landscape. His remarkable intellect and passion for justice earned him recognition in many spheres, but it was his activism and relentless advocacy for societal change that set him apart. A radical by nature, he was never afraid to speak truth to power or lead efforts aimed at improving the lives of the common man.
A veritable champion for the oppressed, Ogunlana’s legacy includes his leadership role as the Chairman of the Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). His tenure was marked by advocacy for the rule of law and the defense of civil liberties, making him a household name not only in legal circles but also in national discourse.
One of his most notable accomplishments was his leadership in the fight against the draconian Land Use Charge imposed by the former Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, in 2018. Under his chairmanship, the NBA Ikeja Branch orchestrated protests on March 13th, 22nd, and 29th of that year, eventually forcing the government to back down on the punitive tax regime, a testament to his tenacity and fearless activism.
Adesina Ogunlana served the Ikeja Branch meritoriously in various capacities, dedicating his life to the cause of justice and harmony within the legal profession. He mentored countless young lawyers, instilling in them a sense of duty to society, and leaving an indelible mark on the legal community. His contributions extended far beyond the NBA, as he became a voice for human rights and good governance across Nigeria.
While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life committed to the pursuit of freedom and justice. Ogunlana’s impact went beyond his professional achievements; he was a beacon of hope for many and a symbol of the fight for equality, harmony, and peace. His legacy will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of working alongside him and those whose lives he touched through his tireless efforts to build a better society.
Not many leave behind a legacy of such dedication and accomplishment. Adesina Ademola Ogunlana’s life was a testament to the power of conviction and the belief that one man, armed with justice, can make a difference. His absence will be deeply felt, but his contributions will continue to inspire generations to come.
May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may the legacy of justice, compassion, and courage that he left behind continue to inspire us all. May God grant his family, friends, and the entire legal community the strength and comfort to bear this great loss. Amen.
