The Katsina State Police Command has foiled an alleged armed bandit attack on Dansarai and Kamfani villages in Malumfashi Local Government Area.
According to The Guardian Nigeria, one suspected bandit was killed during a gun battle between the attackers and police operatives.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, said the Malumfashi Police Division received a distress call that suspected armed bandits riding motorcycles were moving towards the two communities.
Police Block Bandits’ Routes
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a team of operatives alongside personnel of the Violent Crime Response Unit to the area.
The police reportedly blocked the routes through which the armed group was expected to enter the communities and intercepted the suspects.
A gun battle subsequently broke out between the operatives and the suspected bandits.
Police said the attackers were overwhelmed by the operatives’ firepower and tactics, forcing them to abandon the alleged operation and flee the scene.
Suspected Bandit’s Body Recovered
During a search of the area after the confrontation, the police recovered the body of one suspected bandit allegedly killed in the exchange.
The identities of the deceased suspect and the fleeing members of the group were not disclosed.
The police also did not report any casualties among residents or security personnel in the statement.
Efforts were said to be continuing to track and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Police Commissioner Commends Operatives
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the officers for their bravery and professionalism during the operation.
Fage reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and responding promptly to emerging security threats. He assumed office as the state’s 27th Commissioner of Police in March 2026.
The Commissioner also urged residents to continue supplying the police with timely and credible intelligence capable of assisting security agencies in preventing attacks.
