NTA Gombe Road Accident: Gombe State has been plunged into renewed mourning following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of six staff members of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Gombe, barely days after a previous crash killed seven residents of Lawanti village in Akko Local Government Area.
The latest tragedy occurred on Monday along the Billiri–Kumo Road while the journalists were returning from a wedding ceremony of a colleague held in Billiri Local Government Area of the state.

The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahya, an indigene of Gombe State, announced the incident via his official Facebook page.
“Six journalists died in a car crash, another sad day for the journalism profession in Gombe State,” Yahya wrote.
Sources at the NTA Gombe office confirmed that those who lost their lives in the accident include Manu Haruna Kwami, Manager, Administration; Zarah Umar, Manager, News; Isa, an Editor; Musa Tabra, a retired Manager, News; Aminu, a driver; and Adams, the officer in charge of the station’s Startimes operations.
NTA Gombe Road Accident: According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle conveying the media practitioners was involved in a severe crash, leaving several occupants dead on the spot, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Those injured in the accident were identified as Emmanuel Akila, the Government House Correspondent of NTA Gombe; Steven Doddo; Nina; and Jonathan Bara.
They are currently receiving medical treatment at different health facilities across the state.
NTA Gombe Road Accident: The incident has sent shockwaves across the media and journalism community in Gombe State and beyond, with colleagues, professional bodies, and sympathisers expressing deep sorrow over the loss of experienced professionals.
The tragedy comes at a time of heightened concern over road safety in the state, following another recent accident in which seven natives of Lawanti village, Akko Local Government Area, lost their lives while travelling to a wedding in neighbouring Borno State.
Stakeholders have renewed calls on relevant authorities to intensify road safety measures, improve highway conditions, and enforce traffic regulations to curb the growing incidence of fatal road accidents in the region.
