The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking an order compelling the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a fresh investigation into the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Justice James Omotosho dismissed the action filed by the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation.
The suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/363/2026, named the Inspector-General of Police, Nigeria Police Force and Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, as respondents.
The foundation sought an order of mandamus directing a fresh investigation, arguing that the earlier police investigation was incomplete.
The court, however, held that the organisation lacked locus standi and had failed to produce the report of the earlier investigation to establish that relevant persons or issues had been overlooked.
Justice Omotosho also cautioned legal practitioners against public commentary capable of prejudicing cases that are still before the courts.
