The Federal High Court has fixed October 27 for definite hearing of Nasir El-Rufai’s ₦1 billion fundamental-rights suit challenging the search of his Abuja residence, after the Attorney-General of the Federation filed a counter-affidavit opposing his claims.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned until October 27, 2026, for definite hearing of the ₦1 billion fundamental-rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the adjournment to enable El-Rufai’s counsel, Akinyemi Aremu, respond to a counter-affidavit filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation.
El-Rufai’s action arises from the February 19 search of his Abuja residence by ICPC and police operatives.
He alleges violations of rights including dignity, personal liberty, privacy and fair hearing and is seeking ₦1 billion in general, exemplary and aggravated damages.
He is also challenging the validity of the warrant underlying the search and seeks to prevent the respondents from relying on materials allegedly recovered during the operation.
The ICPC and police have defended the search, maintaining that their operatives acted pursuant to a valid court warrant and in accordance with legal procedure.
The competing claims remain before the court and have not yet been determined on their merits.
