The news of the tragic passing of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu (“Sommie”) has left me deeply heartbroken. It is painful beyond words to lose such a vibrant, intelligent, and promising young woman in the prime of her life.

It is truly heartbreaking that at just 29, Sommie’s life and promising future were cut short in such painful and senseless circumstances. She was not only a gifted communicator whose voice resonated on ARISE News but also a committed member of the NBA Women Forum, where she served with energy and distinction as Coordinator of the Media Committee.

Sommie represented so much of what our nation needs – courage, intelligence, professionalism, and a heart for service. To lose someone so full of purpose at such a young age is a devastating blow, not only to her family and loved ones but to the legal and media communities and to Nigeria at large.

Her passing compels us to pause and reflect. We must confront the insecurity that continues to rob us of brilliant lives and bright futures. Justice for Sommie is not just about prosecuting those responsible but also about renewing our collective determination to build a society where young people can live, work, and thrive in safety.

To her family, friends, colleagues at ARISE News, and the NBA Women Forum, I extend my heartfelt condolences. I can only imagine the depth of your pain, but I pray that you are comforted by the legacy she leaves behind – a legacy of courage, brilliance, and dedication that will continue to inspire.

Sommie, though your time here was far too short, your impact will endure. May your soul rest in perfect peace, and may perpetual light shine upon you.
