Police Raise Alert Over Terror Threats to Schools

The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly issued a nationwide security alert following intelligence indicating possible coordinated attacks against schools, places of worship, National Youth Service Corps orientation camps and other vulnerable locations.

According to a police wireless communication dated September 13 and reported on Monday, formations were directed to strengthen surveillance, patrols, access controls, border monitoring and intelligence gathering.

The reported intelligence identified parts of the North-East, North-West, North-Central and South-West as areas requiring increased vigilance and referred to movements of armed elements through parts of northern Nigeria. Police commands were also directed to strengthen cooperation with other security agencies, school authorities, religious organisations and the NYSC.

The warning is particularly significant as schools resume for the 2026/2027 academic session. Preventive deployment, credible intelligence and rapid investigation of suspicious activity will be critical to ensuring that security warnings translate into protection rather than public panic.
