Seven die in Niger road crash

Seven people have been killed and seven others injured in a road crash involving a Toyota Sienna and a Mazda vehicle along the Kutigi–Bida Road in Niger State.

According to PUNCH, the accident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday at Shebe Village.

The Mazda was reportedly travelling from Minna towards Mokwa when it entered a blind corner and collided with the Toyota Sienna, which was travelling from Lagos to Minna.

The Mazda had reportedly departed from the Mobil Motor Park with eight passengers.

Seven occupants of the vehicle were said to have died in the crash, while a teenage girl survived but remained unconscious as of the time the report was filed.

The Toyota Sienna was also fully occupied. Seven people in the vehicle reportedly sustained injuries, while four others escaped without injuries.

However, the detailed passenger breakdown remained unclear, as the Federal Road Safety Corps officially stated that 18 people were involved in the crash.

FRSC Confirms Seven Deaths

Confirming the incident on Sunday night, the Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Aishat Saadu, said seven people died and seven others sustained injuries.

Saadu added that four people escaped the crash without injuries. She is the serving Niger State FRSC Sector Commander.

“As at the time of rescue, 18 people were involved, seven injured, seven killed and four not injured. The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. along Kutigi–Bida Road at Shebe Village,” she said.

The injured victims were reportedly evacuated for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken away from the accident scene.

Authorities were also searching for relatives of the teenage girl who survived the crash.

The identities of the deceased and injured passengers had not been officially disclosed at the time of filing this report.

The incident occurred amid renewed efforts by the FRSC in Niger State to curb speeding, overloading and other dangerous driving practices on major highways.
