Port Harcourt – A coalition of women under the banner of Rivers Women United for Sim (RWUS) staged a peaceful demonstration in Port Harcourt on Thursday, demanding the restoration of peace in Rivers State and the immediate reinstatement of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The women, who turned out in large numbers, described Rivers as a peaceful state that has been thrown into political turmoil. They called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in the lingering crisis, which has persisted since Governor Fubara’s suspension in March.
Carrying placards with bold messages such as “Bring back Fubara,” “Save our democracy,” “Is the law different for Rivers State?” and “God of justice, arise for Rivers State,” the women marched from a major road in the city to the Rivers State Government House. They chanted songs of solidarity and unity throughout the peaceful procession.
“We are here as mothers, as wives, and as concerned citizens of Rivers State,” one of the protest leaders said. “We demand justice. Our governor has done nothing wrong. He must be reinstated. Democracy must be respected.”

The protesters also called for the reinstatement of all suspended elected officials, stressing that no clear justification had been given for the actions taken against Governor Fubara. The group reaffirmed its total and unwavering support for the embattled governor, who they say represents the hope and voice of the people.
Since the governor’s suspension, women under the RWUS coalition have consistently staged rallies and peaceful protests across different parts of the state. Thursday’s gathering marks yet another chapter in their ongoing campaign to restore democratic order and accountability in Rivers State.
They concluded by appealing directly to President Tinubu to act swiftly in the interest of peace and democracy.
