Police Disrupt Bandit Syndicate In Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun and an AK-47 rifle during an operation targeting suspected bandits in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

According to Channels Television, the operation was conducted by officers attached to the 81 Police Mobile Force following intelligence concerning suspected criminal activities around Kafi Abu.

Suspects Flee Into Forest

Police Public Relations Officer SP Alfred Alabo said the operation took place at about 8:23 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026.

The team, led by the Commander of 81 PMF, Bassa, reportedly entered the bush to confront the suspected bandits.

The suspects allegedly fled into the surrounding forest immediately after sighting the operatives, abandoning the weapons subsequently recovered by the police.

GPMG and AK-47 Recovered

A search of the area led to the recovery of a General Purpose Machine Gun bearing breech number T1102-20CH00007, identified as a SARSILMAZ SAR762 MT.

The officers also recovered an AK-47 rifle bearing breech number 1968M117479.

Additional Officers Deployed

Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, ordered the deployment of additional personnel to the area as efforts continued to locate and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Command has commenced an investigation to determine the ownership and possible use of the recovered weapons. No arrest had been announced in connection with the recovery at the time of the report.

Faniyan commended the operatives and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information about suspicious persons and activities.
