Bauchi police investigate suspects arrested after reported violent disturbances.

A community security volunteer was injured and two suspects were arrested following separate incidents in Bauchi metropolis, including an alleged attempt to attack a Peace Corps member.

The Bauchi State Police Command disclosed the developments as part of its response to suspected Sara-Suka activities and public disturbances.

According to PUNCH, police spokesperson Nafiu Habib said one incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. on October 11, when suspected youths entered Wayan Makafi and Unguwan Kur, causing panic among residents.

Police and community volunteers intervene

Officers attached to D Division, Dutsen Tanshi, responded alongside members of the Yan Committee, a local community security group.

The police said the group was dispersed and a further breakdown of order prevented. One suspect was apprehended, while others escaped.

A Yan Committee member sustained injuries during the intervention. The command said he was receiving medical treatment and remained in stable condition. Efforts to locate the fleeing suspects were continuing.

Separate arrest over alleged attack plot

In another incident at Kofar Dumi, police arrested 25-year-old Abubakar Adamu Aliyu, popularly known as Zadous.

Source reported that officers intervened after receiving information that suspected armed youths had approached a Peace Corps member’s residence.

Police alleged that Aliyu had previously faced court proceedings over thuggery and had regained his freedom the previous week. These details form part of the command’s account of the investigation.

The command further alleged that the attempted attack was retaliation against the Peace Corps member for reporting the suspect’s activities approximately seven months earlier.

That claimed motive has not been established as a judicial finding in the reports reviewed. Police said the suspect remained in custody while inquiries continued.

Patrols and intelligence gathering continue

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu called on parents, guardians and community leaders to discourage young people from violent activities and assist investigators with credible information.

The command said further court action would follow as appropriate after investigations.

The two incidents involve separate allegations. The reports reviewed do not establish that the arrested individuals acted together or belonged to a single criminal operation.
