Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has been released on police bail after questioning in an investigation involving allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Source reported on October 13 that the police spokesperson confirmed the arrest and said Okorocha was released after approximately one hour of interrogation.
Naija News also reported that he was asked to return to Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning.
Disputed primary-election document under scrutiny
The development follows reporting about a bench warrant involving Okorocha, former Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and two others in connection with allegedly false APC primary-election documents.
According to SOURCE, INEC disputed a document presenting Okorocha as the winner of the party’s Imo West senatorial primary.
The electoral commission said the authentic submission received from the APC identified Governor Hope Uzodimma as the winner. It asked security agencies to investigate the conflicting document.
Investigation is not a finding of guilt
The immediate development is Okorocha’s release on bail while inquiries continue. The reports reviewed do not establish a conviction for the alleged offences.
Further police statements, court proceedings and any substantive response from Okorocha will be important to establishing the full circumstances of the dispute.
