The Enugu State Police Command has rescued three abducted residents after their captors abandoned them during a pursuit by security operatives and community members.
According to The Guardian Nigeria, the victims were occupants of a Lexus RX350 carjacked by armed men within the Independence Layout area of Enugu.
The operation involved personnel attached to the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, supported by members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group and residents.
Police Pursue Kidnappers Through Enugu
The Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said operatives received intelligence about the carjacking and abduction at approximately 1:30 a.m. on August 18, 2026.

The officers were conducting a crime-prevention patrol along the Port Harcourt Expressway when they received the information and commenced a pursuit of the suspects.
The chase continued to Hillview Road in Independence Layout, where the armed men abandoned the Lexus, their weapons and the three captives before fleeing.
The victims were rescued unharmed and taken to safety.
Firearms and Ammunition Recovered
Police recovered the victims’ Lexus RX350 and a locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Other recovered items included a locally made cut-to-size firearm, one live cartridge, a pair of gloves, a ski mask and a mobile telephone.

The items were reportedly abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
Police Launch Manhunt
Ndukwe said an investigation and manhunt had been launched to identify and arrest the kidnappers, recover additional exhibits and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives, Neighbourhood Watch personnel and residents involved in the coordinated response.
Giwa reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led and community-supported operations against kidnapping, armed robbery, car theft and other violent crimes.
