Ogun State residents have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, accusing police officers in the Sango Area Command of extortion, brutality, and abduction.
According to the petition, signed by lawyers from the Initiative for the Downtrodden, victims Ikechukwu Joseph, Solomon Adeniyi, and Alhaja Asisat were unlawfully detained and tortured.

The officers, identified as SP Rotimi Ogunmuyiwa, ASP Paul Ataga, IPO Jude Ikhe (Chinedu), and others, allegedly extorted ₦5 million from the victims under false pretences.
Allegations Against the Police Officers
- Unlawful Arrest & Brutality: Joseph was abducted from his Peace Estate residence in Lagos on November 14, 2024, and subjected to severe torture at the IRT office.
- Home Invasion & Looting: Officers stormed his home without a warrant, falsely labelling him an armed robber and kidnapper, and looted valuables, including furniture, generators, and air conditioners.
- Extortion of ₦5 Million: The officers allegedly forced Joseph to implicate Adeniyi, leading to the extortion of ₦3 million from Adeniyi and ₦2 million from Joseph. Another relative, Oladipo Bukola, was reportedly forced to pay ₦600,000 via POS.
- Abduction & Disappearance: The victims’ families claim they have not been informed of their whereabouts, raising concerns for their safety.

Petition Demands
The petitioners urged the IGP to conduct an immediate investigation, sanction the officers involved, and refund the extorted funds.
This incident has sparked outrage, with human rights organisations calling for police accountability and justice for the victims.
