The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA Nigeria, Gwagwalada Branch, has announced activities for its 2026 Law Week, scheduled to hold from 25 to 29 November 2026 in Gwagwalada, Abuja, FCT.
The five-day programme will be held under the theme:
“Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges: Advancing Justice, Equality and Empowerment.”
The Law Week is expected to bring together members of the legal profession, the judiciary, government institutions, academics, students, civil society organisations, community leaders and members of the public for a series of engagements centred on justice, human rights, women and children’s protection, professional development and community advocacy.
According to the organisers, the programme will combine legal discussions with public sensitisation, cultural activities, wellness programmes and a thanksgiving service.
One of the major discussions will examine “Women, Justice and the Future: Are We Really Making Progress?”, creating a platform to assess the progress recorded in expanding women’s access to justice, representation, protection and economic and social empowerment.
Another session, titled “When the Home Becomes a Crime Scene: Confronting Domestic Violence, Femicide and the Protection Gap,” will focus attention on violence occurring within domestic spaces and the legal, institutional and societal gaps that may leave victims without adequate protection.
The Law Week will also address emerging risks faced by children online through the session, “Protecting Children in the Digital Age: Law, Policy and Shared Responsibility.”
The conversation is expected to examine the responsibilities of parents, government, schools, technology platforms and other stakeholders in protecting children from exploitation, abuse and other forms of harm associated with growing digital exposure.
A further engagement on “Our Culture, Our Pride, and Our Responsibility: Building Homes Free from Violence Against Women and Children” will explore the relationship between cultural values, family structures and the protection of vulnerable persons.
Beyond the formal legal sessions, FIDA Gwagwalada will incorporate cultural heritage, unity and family-centred activities, reflecting the Branch’s effort to connect legal advocacy with community participation and social responsibility.
The programme will conclude with a thanksgiving service, bringing the Law Week to a close after several days of advocacy, professional engagement and community-focused activities.
FIDA Nigeria has long maintained a strong focus on the protection of the rights of women and children, particularly through legal advocacy, public enlightenment and access-to-justice initiatives.
The 2026 Gwagwalada Law Week is therefore expected to provide another platform for stakeholders to examine persistent justice gaps while considering practical approaches to promoting equality, accountability and safer communities.
Chairperson of the 2026 FIDA Law Week Organising Committee, N. C. Nwachukwu, Esq., invited stakeholders and members of the public to participate in the programme, noting that the celebration is intended to advance the shared objectives of justice, empowerment and protection of women and children.
