Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued a 43-year-old kidnap victim in Kaduna State and foiled a terrorist attack on a community in Sokoto State.

According to Sahara Reporters, the military disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-West, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja.

The statement said troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call on Thursday following the abduction of the victim around Awon community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The troops reportedly pursued the terrorists into the surrounding bushes, forcing them to abandon their captive and escape.

In a separate operation on Friday, troops of Sector 2, working alongside local security personnel, responded to a terrorist attack on Kwaren Gamba village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

During the pursuit, one of the suspected terrorists was killed, while the remaining attackers escaped.

The identity of the killed suspect was not disclosed. The military also did not provide information on possible casualties among residents or security personnel during the attack.

According to Sahara Reporters, the operations formed part of the military’s sustained campaign against kidnapping, terrorism and banditry across Nigeria’s North-West region.

Danja said the Theatre Command remained committed to maintaining pressure on criminal groups and denying them the freedom to operate within communities in the Joint Operations Area.

He assured residents that troops would continue responding decisively to emerging security threats.

The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible intelligence that could assist security forces in preventing attacks and tracking criminal groups.

Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and other states in the North-West have continued to experience attacks, kidnappings and other violent crimes linked to armed groups.

Operation Fansan Yamma has intensified intelligence-led operations aimed at rescuing abducted persons, disrupting terrorist networks and protecting vulnerable communities across the region. Similar operations have recently resulted in the rescue of abducted victims and the disruption of attacks in Sokoto, Zamfara and neighbouring states.
