The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has opened the application process for the 2027 conferment of the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), announcing processing fees of ₦5 million for private legal practitioners and ₦2.5 million for lawyers employed in government institutions.

The committee disclosed that its online application portal would open at midnight on November 1, 2026.

The application process is being conducted pursuant to Section 5(2) of the Legal Practitioners Act and the applicable provisions of the 2022 Guidelines for the Award of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

According to the announcement, applicants are required to pay the prescribed non-refundable processing fee into the designated accounts and upload evidence of payment to the official application portal for verification.

The committee also outlined documentation requirements for applicants, including the submission of relevant professional records and supporting materials.

Academic applicants are subject to additional requirements, including the submission of physical copies of their curriculum vitae and impact statements alongside electronic documentation.

The deadline for online applications is January 31, 2027, while the required physical flash drives must reach the LPPC Secretariat before 4 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

The SAN rank remains one of the highest professional distinctions in the Nigerian legal profession, recognising outstanding contributions to legal practice, advocacy, scholarship and the development of the law.

The announcement is expected to attract considerable attention from eligible practitioners and academics preparing their applications for the next conferment cycle.
