The Nigerian Bar Association Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) has commenced a nationwide Training Needs Assessment Survey to identify the professional development priorities of lawyers and guide the Institute’s training programmes over the next 12 months.
The initiative seeks to obtain direct feedback from legal practitioners across the country on the areas of law, practical skills and professional competencies requiring greater attention.
The survey focuses on three major areas: priority legal and technical training needs, preferred learning formats and challenges affecting lawyers’ participation in continuing legal education.
Practitioners are being asked to indicate whether they prefer physical training sessions, live virtual programmes, self-paced courses or recorded learning materials.
The assessment also seeks to identify practical obstacles such as programme costs, scheduling difficulties and travel requirements.
The questionnaire comprises 12 questions and is expected to take approximately five minutes to complete.
In a related appeal, Emeka Obegolu, SAN, has urged lawyers across the country to participate, noting that the feedback will help shape relevant and accessible professional development programmes.
The survey is open to all NBA members, with November 6, 2026, set as the submission deadline.
The initiative is significant for a profession that must continuously respond to developments in legislation, judicial decisions, technology, legal practice and emerging areas of specialisation.
