How can Nigerians build an additional source of income without relying entirely on their monthly salaries or professional earnings?

The Lawyers In Business Institute (LIBI) is encouraging lawyers, entrepreneurs and other interested Nigerians to explore investment opportunities through its Cooperative and Money-Market Scheme, alongside its ongoing Mass-Housing and Land-Banking Initiative.

The institute has announced plans to participate in the Treasury Bills primary market auction scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, through a collective investment arrangement designed to accommodate individuals who may not have sufficient funds to participate independently.

Under the proposed arrangement, 20 participants will contribute ₦2.5 million each, raising a combined ₦50 million for the investment.

LIBI Targets Treasury Bills Investment

According to the institute, the proposed investment is expected to offer an annualised yield of approximately 16 to 17 per cent, subject to prevailing market rates and the outcome of the auction.

LIBI cited a previous investment of ₦100 million, which it said generated ₦8,449,845 in upfront proceeds at a quoted annualised yield of 17.3 per cent.

Using that experience as a benchmark, the institute projects that a participant contributing ₦2.5 million could receive approximately ₦424,000 in upfront proceeds, subject to the actual auction rate, investment structure and applicable deductions.

The institute further explained that participants would receive acknowledgement receipts, while arrangements would be made for the payment of investment proceeds and the return of capital upon maturity.

LIBI stated that, under its proposed payment structure, a participant receiving ₦424,000 would have approximately ₦42,400 deducted for taxes and charges, leaving a projected maturity payment of ₦2,457,600 after 365 days.

These figures represent LIBI’s projections and should not be treated as guaranteed investment returns. The precise tax treatment, charges, payment schedule and capital repayment arrangements require independent verification.l

Although Federal Government Treasury Bills are generally considered low-credit-risk sovereign securities, participation through a cooperative introduces additional considerations, including custody of funds, management arrangements and the cooperative’s ability to meet its obligations.

Housing Scheme Records New Allottees

Beyond its money-market initiative, LIBI also announced that Sir Mato Magaji Ibrahim, SAN, of the Nigerian Bar Association, Kano Branch, is among the latest allottees under its Mass-Housing and Land-Banking Scheme.

The institute is promoting land acquisition and residential development as opportunities for individuals seeking long-term rental income.

It encourages prospective investors to consider purchasing plots, developing residential flats and generating income from tenants, while diversifying available funds into other investment instruments.

According to LIBI, four plots of various sizes remain available at its previous pricing structure, subject to availability and confirmation.

Estate Inspection Dates Announced

Interested persons have been invited to inspect the estate on Monday, October 19; Wednesday, October 21; and Friday, October 23, 2026, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The designated meeting point and temporary entrance is through the VON/Trademore Estate Junction along Airport Road, Abuja.

LIBI emphasised that participation in its investment and housing programmes is open to both lawyers and non-lawyers.

Prospective participants are encouraged to independently verify the investment terms, cooperative registration, underlying Treasury Bills holdings, land titles and relevant documentation before making financial commitments.

For enquiries, the institute provided the following telephone numbers: 08060266163 and 08050489622.
