Embracing the Girl Child Initiative (EGCI) has held an outreach at Holy Cross Secondary School, Gwarimpa, Abuja, to mark the International Day of the Girl Child.
The programme brought together students, educators, volunteers and advocates for a day of learning and conversation focused on the wellbeing, rights and future of the girl child.
Girls encouraged to know their worth and rights
The students participated in discussions on self-worth, puberty, menstrual education and hygiene, and their rights. They were also encouraged to make informed choices about their education and future careers.
EGCI said the outreach was designed to create a safe and welcoming space where girls could ask questions and speak openly about issues affecting their lives.
The initiative emphasised that girls who understand their bodies, know their rights and can recognise unsafe situations are better equipped to make informed decisions and seek help when needed.
The students were also reminded that menstruation is a natural part of growing up and should not be a source of shame or embarrassment.
EGCI appreciates school and supporters
The initiative expressed its appreciation to the management and staff of Holy Cross Secondary School for welcoming the team and supporting the programme. It also thanked the volunteers, partners and supporters whose time and contributions helped make the outreach possible.
EGCI said the students’ questions, enthusiasm and openness reinforced the importance of continuing this work and reaching more girls.
The International Day of the Girl Child, the initiative noted, is a reminder of the collective responsibility to help girls grow up safe, confident, educated and free to pursue their dreams.
“Every girl matters. Her voice matters. Her dreams matter, and her future is worth fighting for,” EGCI said.
Embracing the Girl Child Initiative remains committed to empowering girls to live life without confines.
