First Tirad Global Resources Limited and its majority shareholder, Funmilola Soyebo, have sued First City Monument Bank before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory over the alleged unauthorized disclosure of the company’s bank statement.
The suit, marked FCT/HC/NY/255/2026, alleges that a statement covering January 1 to April 8, 2026 was obtained by a person who was not authorised to receive the information.
According to the claimants, Soyebo was the sole authorized signatory to the corporate account.
The court filings allege that a former FCMB account officer received a request through WhatsApp and contacted a serving officer, who generated screenshots of the account statement that were subsequently passed to a third party.
The dispute became particularly significant after FCMB, in a July 8 letter cited in the proceedings, acknowledged that the disclosure was “wholly unauthorised,” apologised and said disciplinary measures and additional controls had been introduced.
The claimants are seeking declarations of breach of confidentiality and data-protection obligations, an injunction against further disclosure and ₦5 billion in general, aggravated and exemplary damages.
The court has not yet determined liability or damages.
