In a significant development in the fight against terrorism, notorious Boko Haram terrorist Bochu Abacha has surrendered to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) stationed in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
This was confirmed in a statement released on Saturday by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the MNJTF’s information officer. According to the statement, he admitted to his involvement in numerous Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) operations along the Mongunu–Baga axis of Borno.
The statement read, “Bochu, a key figure in several terrorist operations, has participated in several Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist activities along the Mongunu–Baga axis.”
He surrendered due to the MNJTF’s intense military pressure and claimed a loss of interest in the terrorist cause. He escaped from a Boko Haram camp in Mussaram with his weapon, which was recovered alongside an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, a mobile phone, an Airtel SIM card, and ₦32,500. Bochu is currently providing valuable intelligence to authorities.
In another operation, MNJTF troops ambushed Boko Haram terrorists in Gubio after receiving intelligence on the movement of three vehicles loaded with logistics. The troops engaged the terrorists, killing one while others fled, abandoning three Toyota vehicles and assorted supplies.
These developments signify further progress in ongoing counterterrorism operations in the Lake Chad region.
