The Minister of Youth Development, Jamila Bio Ibrahim, has affirmed that the recent increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of citizens.
Naija News reports that the federal government raised the monthly allowance for corps members from 33,000 to 77,000, effective July 2024. Ibrahim highlighted that this decision reflects the government’s dedication to improving the lives of Nigerian youths.
In her statement, Ibrahim emphasised that President Tinubu’s vision for the youth is clear and consistent, focussing on their welfare and prospects. She noted, “This allowance increase directly reflects that commitment, and the Ministry is pleased that this has become a reality.”
She further explained that the increase addresses not only the current economic challenges but is also part of a broader strategic agenda to enhance the overall service conditions for young Nigerians. “We want to ensure that they are well-equipped to contribute to national development,” she stated.
Moreover, the Minister indicated that this allowance increase is just one of several initiatives the Ministry of Youth Development plans to implement to improve the lives of youth in Nigeria. She urged the youth to take advantage of these opportunities and actively participate in national development initiatives.
With this increase, the government aims to provide better support for the youth, empowering them to play a crucial role in the country’s progress.
