The Federal High Court in Lagos has refused to grant medical bail to businessman and social media personality Kazeem Michael Afolabi, popularly known as KC Luxury, in a case involving alleged cocaine trafficking and money laundering.
Justice Musa Kakaki ruled on Wednesday that the defence had not provided sufficient medical evidence to justify the defendant’s release from custody.
KC Luxury’s lawyer, Emefo Etudo, had argued that his client required specialised medical treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). The application followed earlier proceedings in which the defendant appeared at court in an ambulance while receiving oxygen.
A nurse from the Police Hospital in Falomo had told the court that Afolabi was admitted on 7 October and diagnosed with asthma and sepsis. The defence also raised concerns about the deterioration of his condition and his access to appropriate treatment.
The prosecution opposed the bail application, arguing that the evidence did not establish that the defendant could not be treated while in custody.
In refusing bail, Justice Kakaki directed the Ikoyi Custodial Centre to ensure that Afolabi had unrestricted access to doctors and medical specialists. The judge also ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.
Afolabi is standing trial alongside co-defendants over allegations involving 184.5 kilograms of cocaine and money laundering. The allegations remain subject to judicial determination.
The court adjourned the matter until 2 November 2026.
