Dangote Buys $327m Stake in Kenya Pipeline Company

Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote has acquired approximately 25 per cent of Kenya Pipeline Company, extending his energy investments into the infrastructure used to transport petroleum products across East Africa.

Dangote disclosed the acquisition in London on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, according to source.

The investment gives his business a substantial interest in a petroleum distribution network as it pursues further expansion beyond Nigeria.

Deal Adds Distribution to Refinery Expansion

Nairametrics reported that the acquisition was valued at approximately $327 million.

Kenya’s Business Daily put the precise shareholding at 24.76 per cent, while Dangote described it in his announcement as 25 per cent.

The transaction places the Nigerian investor within a major part of East Africa’s fuel supply chain. Alongside refining capacity, access to transportation infrastructure is important to moving finished products into commercial markets.

Investment Follows Planned Lamu Refinery

The acquisition comes after the groundbreaking for a proposed $16 billion refinery in Lamu, Kenya, on September 30.

The planned facility is designed to process 700,000 barrels of crude oil daily, matching the stated capacity of Dangote’s refinery in Lagos.

According to reports, the pipeline investment followed a block transaction involving approximately 4.5 billion shares, valued at about 42.5 billion Kenyan shillings.

The pipeline stake and proposed refinery show the scale of Dangote’s interest in East Africa’s petroleum market, linking plans for local production with access to distribution infrastructure.

Further Expansion Planned

The Financial Times separately reported that Dangote outlined plans to invest $1.5 billion in expanding the Kenyan pipeline network.

That proposed expenditure would be additional to the acquisition and forms part of his wider ambition to distribute refined petroleum products across African markets.

For Nigeria’s business community, the development represents another major cross-border investment by a Nigerian industrial group, with implications for regional energy trade and infrastructure financing.
