Nigerian Army troops / recovered rifle

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a man suspected of involvement in kidnapping and recovered an AK-47 rifle in Edo State.

The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested around the Benin-Sapele Road axis in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

Reports said troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine and ammunition, alongside other items. The suspect remained in custody for further investigation into possible links with kidnapping and other criminal activities.

The recovery of a military-grade firearm makes the investigation particularly important. Beyond determining whether the suspect committed any offence, investigators will need to establish the origin of the weapon, how it entered illegal circulation and whether other individuals are connected to it.

The suspect remains entitled to the presumption of innocence until guilt is established before a competent court.
