IN THE INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE: A SOLEMN CALL FOR UNDERSTANDING AND HARMONY.

I have followed with keen interest the concerns raised by the hardworking and dedicated members of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kano State Chapter. Law Officers serve at the very heart of the justice system, and the issues they have highlighted deserve careful and urgent attention.

I am aware that the Kano State Government, through the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, engaged the leadership of LOAN prior to the declaration of the strike in an attempt to avert the situation. Such efforts are commendable and demonstrate a recognition of the importance of addressing these concerns through dialogue.

The role of Law Officers within the justice sector cannot be overstated. Their work is essential to the effective functioning of the justice system and ensuring that those entrusted with this responsibility are adequately supported and motivated is not only a matter of welfare but also one that directly impacts the efficiency, credibility and integrity of the administration of justice.

At the same time, the justice system remains a vital public institution that must continue to function in the interest of the people. Prolonged disruption inevitably affects governance, the courts, and the broader administration of justice, underscoring the importance of finding a prompt and sustainable resolution.

I commend the steps taken by the Kano State Government towards addressing the issues raised, as well as the intervention of the Kano and Ungogo Branches of the Nigerian Bar Association, whose commitment to constructive engagement reflects the true spirit of the Bar.

This moment calls for pragmatic engagement by all parties. Cooperation and constructive dialogue remain the surest path toward safeguarding the integrity of the justice system while advancing the legitimate interests of Law Officers and the broader public they serve.

I therefore respectfully appeal to both parties to resume meaningful discussions, guided by mutual respect and a genuine commitment to reaching a fair and lasting resolution. Our justice system must remain strong, functional, and worthy of public confidence.
