In a bold and emotionally charged statement, prominent Niger Delta activist and former militant leader, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, has declared unwavering solidarity with the Igbo people in the event of any national conflict involving them and Nigeria.

Speaking during a press briefing over the weekend, Asari stated emphatically that the Ijaw nation would align with the Igbos, describing them as “brothers bound by blood, history, and destiny.”

“If ever there should be a war between the Igbos and Nigeria, the Ijaw people will stand with the Igbos — because they are our brothers,” Asari declared.

The fiery activist, known for his outspoken stance on national and regional issues, also addressed speculations about his strained relationship with the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“My disagreement with Nnamdi Kanu has always been a brotherly matter. We may argue, but we can never be enemies. We are bound by blood, by history, and by destiny,” he clarified.

Asari Dokubo further called for unity among southern ethnic nationalities, emphasizing the need to rise above political and ethnic divisions that have long weakened the region.

“Let no one deceive you, when it comes to defending truth and freedom, the Ijaw and the Igbo are one people. Whatever divides us is temporary, but what unites us is eternal,” he said passionately.

The statement comes amid renewed calls from pro-Biafra groups and human rights activists for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021.

Observers see Asari Dokubo’s remarks as a significant gesture of reconciliation and unity in the South, particularly at a time when ethnic tensions and agitation for self-determination remain delicate issues in Nigeria’s political landscape.
