In a vibrant demonstration of partnership and purpose, the Nigerian Bar Association Women’s Forum (NBAWF), Sokoto Branch, led a successful courtesy visit to Barrister Sa’adatu Yunusa Mohammed, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Poverty Reduction, on Monday, May 5, 2025.

The forum used the visit to introduce its mission, explore opportunities for collaboration, and strengthen ties with key stakeholders dedicated to gender empowerment and poverty alleviation in Sokoto State.

Highlights from the Visit:

Opening Prayer:
Barrister Zainab Bello Aliyu, Chairperson of FIDA Sokoto Branch, offered the opening prayer, setting a dignified tone for the engagement.

Opening Remarks:
Barrister Rashidat Muhammad, Chairperson of the NBA Sokoto Branch, delivered insightful remarks, emphasizing NBAWF’s vision to elevate female lawyers, promote gender equity, and provide platforms for career growth and social impact.

Statement by the State Lead:
Barrister Aisha Abdullahi Illo, State Lead of the NBAWF Sokoto Branch, articulated the forum’s strategic goals and called for active partnership with the SA’s office to implement impactful capacity-building initiatives.

Decoration Ceremony:
In a symbolic act of unity, Barrister Sa’adatu Yunusa Mohammed was adorned with the NBAWF scarf and pin, formally welcoming her into the forum’s network of advocates. NBAWF pins were also presented to Hajia Uwani and Hajia Nasara, celebrating their support and partnership.

Address by SA on Poverty Reduction:
Barrister Mohammed gave a powerful address, recounting her personal and political journey, challenges faced in her legal career, and the need for resilience among women. She passionately advocated for mental health support for professionals and emphasized the value of collaboration among women to drive meaningful change.

Strategic Dialogue:
Discussions explored synergy between the SA’s office and the NBAWF on initiatives such as skill acquisition, legal aid, social welfare support, and educational outreach. The presence of the other SAs facilitated a comprehensive discussion on cross-sectoral opportunities for holistic female empowerment.
