It is with immense pleasure and a deep sense of professional pride that I address the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) community in Enugu State. I extend my sincere commendation to all the NBA branches across the state for the exemplary initiative of collaborating to organize a Joint Law Week for 2025.

The program, with its robust schedule, including the crucial Day 3 session focusing on the “Launch of the Law Enlightenment Project (NKOWA IWU) Enugu State (LEPENES)” under the timely topic “Ignorance of the Law is No Excuse: Why Legal Awareness Matters Now More Than Ever,” underscores the commitment of the Enugu Bar to both professional development and public service.

Speaking with One Voice
The significance of this collaborative effort cannot be overstated. In a jurisdiction as vital as Enugu State, the decision by the various branches to pool their resources, expertise, and perspectives to host a unified Law Week represents a powerful statement.

This collaboration is a clear demonstration that the Bar in Enugu is ready to speak with a single, coherent, and powerful voice. It provides a unique and essential platform to:

  • Address Common Issues: Discuss and develop solutions to challenges affecting the administration of justice, the welfare of our members, and the practice of law across the state.
  • Enhance Professional Unity: Strengthen the bonds of friendship and collegiality among legal practitioners, fostering a greater sense of community within the Bar.
  • Maximize Impact: Ensure that the Bar’s message on law reform, public legal education, and the rule of law reaches a broader audience with maximum impact.

Their unity has also been demonstrated through their collaboration as members of the Local Organising Committee for the 2025 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association. Their collective dedication, shared vision, and seamless cooperation in supporting this national event further affirm the strength and cohesion of the Enugu Bar.

Advancing the Cause of Justice
The theme and scheduled activities clearly indicate a focus on service and societal relevance. Legal awareness is the bedrock of a just society, and the commitment to projects like LEPENES will undoubtedly contribute significantly to public enlightenment and the deepening of democratic culture in Enugu State.

I particularly look forward to the insights from the Lead Presenter, Hon. Justice G. C. Nnamani, the Special Guest, Dr. Kingsley Tochi Udeh, SAN, Hon. Minister of Science and Technology, and the Chairman of Session, Dr. COC Egumgbe, during the morning session on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025.

This joint endeavor sets a laudable standard for cooperation within the NBA, reaffirming the principle that together, we are stronger. I urge all members of the Enugu Bar to fully participate and leverage this opportunity for collective growth and advocacy.

I wish the Enugu State Branches of the NBA a highly successful and impactful Law Week.
