Retired Delta High Court Judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, Found Murdered In Asaba Home As Police Launch Intensive Investigation

A retired High Court Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice Ifeoma Okogwu (rtd.), has been brutally murdered at her residence in Asaba, prompting a full-scale investigation by the Delta State Police Command.

Justice Okogwu was discovered dead in the sitting room of her home located at No. 8 Tom Halen Street, behind IBTC Bank, Asaba. Security sources disclosed that her hands and legs were bound, while her mouth was covered with a wrapper, indicating that she may have been restrained before her death.

The incident was reported to the police at about 8:00 a.m. by her brother, Mr. Emeka Okogwu, who had visited the residence and made the grim discovery.

Following the report, police patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene to secure the premises and commence preliminary investigations.

According to police sources, the on-duty security guard at the residence, identified as Lucky Matthew, has been arrested and is currently being questioned. Another security guard, Godwin Vanen, was reported missing at the time of the incident and is now the subject of an active manhunt.

The body of the deceased jurist was evacuated from the residence and deposited at Maduemeie Hospital Mortuary in Asaba for autopsy and preservation.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba, for discreet and thorough investigation. Authorities stated that efforts are ongoing to determine the motive behind the killing, identify the perpetrators, and recover any forensic evidence that may assist the investigation.

Police further confirmed that intelligence and tactical operations have been intensified to locate the missing security guard and unravel the sequence of events leading to the murder.

Residents of the area have expressed deep shock and sorrow over the killing, describing Justice Okogwu as a quiet, dignified, and highly respected member of the Asaba community.

Security experts have since called for heightened vigilance and stricter oversight of private security arrangements, particularly in residential neighborhoods, noting the growing risks associated with insider compromise.

The Delta State Police Command has assured members of the public of its commitment to ensuring justice for the slain judge and maintaining law and order in Asaba and across the state.
