In a remarkable show of collaboration for justice reform, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, joined the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on a working visit to the Kuje Correctional Facility.
The visit focused on assessing ongoing rehabilitation initiatives and engaging directly with inmates, reinforcing the shared vision of transforming correctional centres into truly reformative institutions.
During the visit, the NBA President commended the facility’s dedication to inmate rehabilitation through vocational, creative, and academic programs.
He noted with satisfaction that over 150 inmates are currently enrolled in the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), including postgraduate students, while many others participate in skill acquisition programs designed to equip them with employable skills.

Mazi Osigwe reaffirmed the NBA’s unwavering commitment to criminal justice reform through its Pro Bono Centre.
He pledged the Association’s partnership with the correctional service in providing legal representation to inmates who lack access to counsel.
Emphasizing the power of forgiveness and reintegration, he urged society to welcome reformed inmates back into their communities with compassion and support.
In his remarks, Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed the Ministry’s dedication to strengthening rehabilitation programs and improving inmates’ welfare.
He highlighted the importance of continued collaboration with the NBA, noting that such partnerships would enhance the integrity, dignity, and transformative impact of Nigeria’s correctional system.

The joint visit underscored the renewed synergy between the NBA and the Ministry of Interior, a united effort to rebuild lives, restore hope, and promote justice beyond the prison walls.
