The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has trained 192 officers nationwide on the use of the Athena Forensic Intelligence Solution (AFIS) as part of its renewed efforts to combat cybercrime.
The training, which held between July 9 and August 15, 2025, was conducted in partnership with Radio Tactics Group Limited and featured participants drawn from all 36 state commands, the Federal Capital Territory, and 10 specialized police units.
According to the Force, the programme was designed to enhance digital and forensic investigative capabilities. Officers received training on threat identification, data retrieval, and processing from SIM cards, GPS devices, satellite phones, and other mobile gadgets. They also gained skills in biometric capture and the use of forensic hotlists to link intelligence records with operational data.
In line with its intensified crackdown on cybercrime, the Police also announced the arrest of three suspects—Gbenga Samuel, Dele Titus, and Olalekan Oke—in Abuja and Lagos. The trio were apprehended for offences including cyberstalking, identity theft, and online fraud.

Investigations revealed that on July 18, 2025, the suspects hacked into a WhatsApp account and attempted to extort ₦3 million from the victim, threatening to leak sensitive information. Forensic analysis eventually traced the activities to them, leading to their arrest and the recovery of the compromised account.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reiterated the Force’s commitment to adopting advanced digital solutions and continuous training for officers to meet international standards in tackling cyber-enabled crimes.
