ENUGU, ENUGU STATE — The Enugu State Police Command has officially arraigned and secured a remand order for a 51-year-old man, identified as Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, who is implicated in the alleged murder of his 19-year-old cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu. The incident occurred in Nsukka, and the suspect, who is reportedly a member of a local neighborhood security watch group, now faces serious charges.
The suspect was brought before an Enugu State Magistrate Court on Wednesday, following the swift conclusion of a detailed investigation conducted by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Details of the Alleged Crime
According to statements released by the police command, Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu was initially arrested on December 1, 2025. This arrest followed an incident in Nsukka where the suspect allegedly assaulted the deceased, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu.
Police confirmed that the severe assault resulted in injuries that tragically led to the death of the 19-year-old victim shortly thereafter. The nature of the relationship between the suspect and the deceased—being cousins—has added a layer of profound distress to the community and the victim’s family.
Police Action and Judicial Proceeding
Upon the report of the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, immediately ordered a comprehensive and thorough investigation into the matter, prioritizing its immediate prosecution to ensure justice is served.
The police investigation culminated in the arraignment of the suspect on a one-count charge of murder before the State Magistrate Court. Given the gravity of the charge, which is a capital offense, the court declined jurisdiction and issued an order for the suspect’s remand in custody.
Furthermore, the court directed that the complete case file be transmitted to the Ministry of Justice, specifically through the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), for necessary legal advice and to facilitate the subsequent filing of charges before a High Court.
Commissioner Giwa used the opportunity to convey heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased. He offered firm assurances that the command is fully committed to pursuing the case diligently to its logical conclusion, thereby ensuring that justice is transparently delivered.
