The Airport Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy over the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in the Sabo Masalashi area of Bassa, Abuja.
According to PUNCH, the alleged incident occurred on August 15, 2026, and was reported by the girl’s mother at the Abuja Airport Police Division. The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Adeola.
The police alleged that the teenager, who resides in Angua Mandala, invited the girl into his room under the pretext of buying some of the soya bean cake she was selling.
The alleged sexual assault reportedly occurred after the girl entered the room.
Police Facilitate Medical Attention
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of the Abuja Airport Police Division reportedly contacted the girl’s parents and facilitated immediate medical attention for her.
Police personnel were subsequently deployed to locate the teenager, who was arrested and taken into custody while the investigation continued.
The Command said the teenager’s statement was obtained in the presence of his mother, in accordance with procedures governing the handling of juvenile suspects.
Police authorities also said appropriate measures had been put in place to protect the welfare and wellbeing of the girl throughout the investigation.
Suspect to Face Juvenile Court
The Airport Police Command said the teenager would be brought before a juvenile court of competent jurisdiction after the investigation was concluded.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Airport Police Command, CP Olufunke Ogunbode, condemned the alleged incident and reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance position on rape, sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence.
Ogunbode directed the Divisional Police Officer to ensure that the girl received adequate protection and that the case was handled in accordance with applicable legal procedures.
ASP Mohammed Adeola is officially listed by the Nigeria Police Force as the spokesperson attached to the Airport Police Command.
The allegation has not been determined by a court. The teenager remains entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
