A serving officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has reportedly been killed by gunmen who abducted a businessman in Pushit community, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to PUNCH, the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2026.
Community member Lawrence Tabitha told journalists that the officer, identified by rank as a Deputy Superintendent, was riding a motorcycle near his residence when the attackers shot him.
Tabitha said the gunmen had seized a businessman dealing in fuel, cement and fertiliser. He alleged that the motorcycle’s headlight exposed their movement as they were leaving with the victim.
Residents Seek Stronger Protection
The attack reportedly occurred despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed in parts of the area.
Tabitha called for stronger protection and the businessman’s safe release, citing residents’ concerns about attacks affecting Pushit District and nearby communities, including Vodni, Sabon Gari and Nchiya.
PUNCH reported that spokespersons for the Plateau State Police Command and Operation Enduring Peace had not responded to enquiries when its report was filed.
The account therefore remains based on community testimony pending an official security update.
