More than 150 suspected terrorists, including commanders, fighters and affiliates, have surrendered to troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, within one week.

According to The Guardian Nigeria, the figure represents a sharp increase from the more than 50 members of terrorist groups who surrendered during the previous week.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni.

Military Attributes Surrenders to Sustained Pressure

Goni attributed the increase to sustained intelligence-led operations, intensified military action and coordinated kinetic and non-kinetic measures across the North-East.

He said the operations were restricting the freedom of movement of terrorist groups, disrupting their logistics and supply networks and weakening their ability to retain fighters within their enclaves.

The military said weapons and ammunition were recovered from some of those who surrendered, describing the development as further evidence of the pressure being exerted on terrorist networks.

Operation Combines Military and Non-Military Measures

Operation Hadin Kai’s counter-insurgency strategy combines offensive operations with strategic communication, civil-military engagement and other non-kinetic interventions.

According to the statement, the combined measures are intended to degrade terrorist capabilities, disrupt support structures and encourage commanders and fighters to abandon violence voluntarily.

Goni said strategic communication remained central to the campaign because it enabled the military to reach individuals willing to renounce terrorism while highlighting the consequences of remaining associated with armed groups.

Surrendered Persons Profiled

The military said all those who surrendered had been profiled, documented and handled in accordance with established procedures and applicable laws.

The Theatre Command pledged to sustain the current momentum to encourage further disengagement and weaken terrorist recruitment, logistics and operational support systems.

The Military High Command also commended troops for their resilience, discipline and operational effectiveness, urging them to maintain pressure on terrorist elements and continue denying them freedom of action.

Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist networks, protecting civilians and creating conditions for the restoration of peace and normal life across the North-East.

The reported surrender figures are based on the military’s statement and have not been independently verified.
