Stakeholders Dismiss Misrepresentation, Clarify Facts on Ibadan Development in Ongoing Leadership Contest

Stakeholders involved in the ongoing leadership contest within the legal community have dismissed claims of misrepresentation, insisting that their earlier statement was factual, measured, and has been wrongly construed amid rising tensions.

In a response issued to address the emerging fracas, the group clarified that it never stated, nor implied, that Professor Foluke Dada-Lawanson stepped down in favour of Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN. They stressed that such an interpretation does not reflect the content or intent of their statement and urged all parties to revisit it within its proper context.

According to stakeholders, a video of the events in Ibadan, currently circulating widely, clearly captures what transpired and leaves little room for ambiguity. They explained that their statement merely conveyed appreciation for the effect and significance of Professor Dada-Lawanson’s action, without attributing motives or political alignment beyond what occurred.

They clarified that Professor Dada-Lawanson stepped down for Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, an action which, by consequence, resulted in Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, emerging as the only female contender in the presidential race. While acknowledging that this outcome may not have been Professor Dada-Lawanson’s primary intention, the stakeholders noted that the decision nonetheless had a positive impact on inclusiveness and balance within the contest.

Reaffirming their position, the group maintained that there is no false narrative in their account, emphasising that the facts remain clear and verifiable. They concluded by reiterating their appreciation to Professor Foluke Dada-Lawanson for her conduct and for the broader implications of her decision on the evolving leadership contest within the legal profession.
