Onyedikachi Ifedi, one of the lawyers representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of concealing the true state of his client’s health and misleading the public with false claims.
In a statement issued on Wednesday night, Ifedi alleged that the DSS has been “playing hide-and-seek” with Kanu’s medical condition despite being aware of his critical cardiovascular challenges. He dismissed recent DSS statements downplaying concerns over Kanu’s health as “propaganda churned out through willing media collaborators.”
“The facts are simple and indisputable: The DSS has been playing hide-and-seek with his health. Despite being present during his medical examinations, the agency suddenly introduced one Dr. Nasiru Mohammed, an individual with no demonstrable competence in handling life-threatening cardiovascular conditions. If indeed the DSS has nothing to hide, why has it refused to release the full and unedited test results?” Ifedi queried.

He further raised questions on why Kanu’s blood samples had to be flown to South Africa if, as the DSS claimed, nothing was wrong with him.
According to Ifedi, “a security agency that does not even understand the clinical implications of aortic valve regurgitation or congestive heart failure has no business presuming to oversee the healthcare of a man whose life is already endangered by its reckless detention conditions.”
The lawyer also accused the DSS of intimidating doctors into altering medical reports to suit government narratives and mislead the courts into believing Kanu was healthy. He condemned what he described as a consistent pattern of “lies, concealment, and medical quackery,” vowing that Kanu’s legal team would continue to expose every falsehood.
Ifedi challenged the DSS to convene a public press conference with independent medical experts if it truly disputes claims about Kanu’s deteriorating health.
“We will continue to expose every falsehood and hold the DSS accountable before Nigerians and the international community,” he declared.

The development comes amid growing concerns from stakeholders who argue that Kanu’s release remains a key condition for peace in the South East.
