Nnamdi Kanu's Case Reassigned to Another Judge at the Federal High Court

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, has officially reassigned the case of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to another judge. This development was confirmed on Saturday by Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor.

In a statement, Ejimakor revealed that the legal team had received two official letters regarding Kanu’s case. One letter was from the Chief Justice of Nigeria, responding to the legal team’s request for administrative intervention following the recusal of the previous trial judge. The second letter, from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, formally announced the reassignment of the case.

Kanu, through his lawyer, expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice of Nigeria for the prompt response and to the public for their support in advocating for the case reassignment.

Emphasizing Kanu’s readiness to face trial, Ejimakor stated, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has always been ready to take his trial because he is firmly convinced of his innocence. However, the events of the past six months posed serious threats to his constitutional rights, particularly his right to a fair and speedy hearing.”

With the case now reassigned, Kanu’s legal team has pledged to focus on preparing a robust defense as proceedings resume under the new judge.
