Fresh details have emerged surrounding the death of former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, popularly known as OBA, as police authorities have detained his wife and children over suspicions of their involvement in his alleged murder.

A police source confirmed that Akingboye’s death, initially announced as a sudden tragedy, is now being treated as a possible homicide. According to the source, CCTV footage reportedly revealed that the late politician was dragged out of his Victoria Garden City (VGC) residence in Lagos around 2 a.m. “The wife and children have all been arrested and taken into custody since Wednesday at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos. The daughter is the only one at large,” the source disclosed.

Akingboye, who died at 60, was a well-known philanthropist, oil and maritime businessman, and political leader in Ondo State. He was also the Chief Executive Officer of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems, as well as President of WeAfrica Group.

Initially, his Personal Assistant and Media Adviser, Oyeniyi Iwakun, had described his passing as a great loss, calling him “a man of unwavering integrity, an accomplished businessman, philanthropist, visionary leader, and community builder.” However, reports of domestic violence and foul play soon surfaced, with allegations that one of his wives may have pushed him off a balcony during a domestic altercation.
