The Nigeria Police Force has arrested an Islamic cleric, Oluwafemi Idris, in the Akoko area of Ondo State for alleged possession of human body parts, including hands, kidneys, hearts, a spine, and a tongue.
The arrest, which occurred during a police search of the cleric’s residence, has sparked outrage and concern over ritual killings and trafficking in the region.
A police source familiar with the case revealed that the cleric claimed some of the human remains were supplied by an associate, identified only as an Alhaji, who is also a cleric, as well as one Samuel Kutelu.
Idris allegedly admitted to supplying human heads to Babatunde Kayode, an individual referred to as “Oluawo.” Both Kayode and Kutelu have also been apprehended by authorities in connection with the case.
“The suspect claimed to be an Islamic cleric, and some of the human parts were supplied by his friend, an Alhaji, and Samuel Kutelu. He further admitted to supplying Babatunde Kayode with three human heads,” the source added.
Islamic Cleric Arrested in Ondo State for Possession of Human Body Parts
This incident follows previous cases of ritualistic practices involving human body parts in Nigeria. Last October, four individuals were arrested after confessing to murdering and trafficking human body parts for money rituals. The suspects described how they killed their victims and sold the remains for use in rituals aimed at prosperity and wealth.
As investigations continue, the Ondo State Police Command has intensified efforts to crack down on ritual killings and human trafficking, which remain a grave concern in parts of the country. Authorities have vowed to ensure that those involved in these heinous crimes face justice.
The police have urged citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help combat the rising cases of ritualistic killings and human body part trafficking.
