The Edo State Police Command has apprehended Theophilus Osazuwa, a resident of Ogbeson Quarters in Benin City, for the alleged murder of his four-year-old son, Testimony Osazuwa. The tragic incident, which occurred on December 24, 2024, has shocked the community.
According to Moses Yamu, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Osazuwa reportedly returned to his home around 12:30 p.m. and, under the suspected influence of hard drugs, fell into a trance. Witnesses said the suspect screamed “Holy Ghost fire” before grabbing his young son and slamming him against a wall.
Despite immediate efforts to save the child, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect, known for consuming illicit substances such as ice and other drugs, acted under the influence of these substances,” Yamu stated.
Edo State Police Commissioner Umoru Ozigi has condemned the incident and urged youths to avoid illicit drug use, warning of its devastating consequences on health, safety, and society. He reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling drug abuse and ensuring justice for the victim.
Osazuwa is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges in court following the conclusion of investigations.
