The General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, has welcomed the year 2026 with a message of gratitude, reflection, and renewed resolve, calling on members of the Association to look ahead with hope and purpose.
According to him, the transition from 2025 to 2026 is more than a passage of time; it is a sacred pause a moment to look back with appreciation, look around with empathy, and look ahead with hope and purpose.
Dr. Ojibara noted that the year 2025 was, in many respects, a defining chapter in the life of the Association, testing its convictions and resilience while reaffirming the enduring strength of its collective spirit. He stated that through moments of progress and periods of pressure, the NBA remained steadfast guided by principle, strengthened by unity, and sustained by the unwavering commitment of its members across branches and generations.
He said the Association celebrated achievements that reinforced its place as the conscience of the nation’s legal profession, adding that its conferences, reforms, advocacy efforts, and professional engagements reflected a Bar that is alive, responsive, and forward-looking. He also acknowledged the loss of valued colleagues during the year, describing them as icons whose dedication to justice and service left indelible imprints on the profession and whose memories remind members that the Bar is a living legacy.

On a personal note, the General Secretary said he remains deeply humbled by the honour of serving in his current capacity, describing the privilege of the office as one that has brought him into close encounter with the soul of the NBA—the quiet sacrifices, generously shared ideas, and the passion for justice that unites members beyond titles or seniority. He expressed sincere appreciation for the confidence, cooperation, and encouragement of members.
As the Association steps into 2026, Dr. Ojibara called on members to renew their commitment to a higher calling, urging the Bar to be more inclusive, innovative, and compassionate. He emphasised the need to strengthen mentorship, uphold ethical excellence, deepen public interest advocacy, and continue to position the law as a tool for social good, noting that while the road ahead may not always be smooth, the collective wisdom, courage, and resolve of members remain strong.
He acknowledged the leadership of the NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, whose vision and steadiness, he said, continue to inspire confidence across the Association. He also appreciated members of the National Executive Committee, the staff of the NBA National Secretariat, his predecessors in office, and all branches, sections, forums, committees, and members of the Bar, describing them as the heartbeat of the Association.
Dr. Ojibara reaffirmed that the NBA National Secretariat remains fully open and committed to serving members through its various departments, including the Membership and Bar Services Department; the Legal Regulatory and Compliance Department; the Human Rights Institute and Pro Bono Centre; and the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE), assuring members of efficiency, accessibility, and professional satisfaction.
He further stated that he remains personally accessible and fully committed to serving every member of the Association.

Concluding, the General Secretary expressed hope that 2026 would be a year of renewed strength, deeper unity, and greater impact for the Nigerian Bar Association, while wishing members and their loved ones a fulfilling, peaceful, and prosperous New Year.
